Done LOTS of searches and each one seems to render a different answer. I have lowered one of my c4s and plan to do one of my wife's next weekend when we get back to the states.
If you look a each thread, it seems each vette turns out with a different stance. I understand that you can cut the replacement shims down, but some look SLAMMED and others just a touch down. THere is one 96 CE on the forum that is waaaaay down and looks SIC! So my question is: is this simply a difference on how much each person is trimming off the replacement shim or is it something else?
I would say its just trimming differences. Also, some people who want to slam it trim the rubber pads on the ENDs of the spring. They are about 3/4" thick, so there's that much ride height right there.
This is what I did, and recommend it to find a good ride height. Do like all the DIYs say on the shim mounting. Then put it all back together and drive it for a couple of weeks to make sure it's settled. Then, if it's still too high, trim 1/2" or so off of the rubber ends of the spring. That's what I did, and am just waiting until I have time to trim them.
The slammed Vettes cut the wedges down to almost nothing but a layer to protect the spring and trimmed the outer edge rubber where it meets the lower a arm to almost nothing also. They also use longer bolts on the rear than comes in the kits to bring down the rear also.
