My best friend has been bitten by the vette bug after riding around in my 91 before it was sold. He now owns a MINT 95 lt1 auto vette. He has installed the SLP intake (3 tube intake) and muffler deletes. He wants to get 12.7-12.9 1/4 mile range n/a. He is 100% against nitrous. I dont know what gears it has, but how much would some 3.73's help? What else do you guys recommend? I know my lt4 transam with 3.73s ran mid 12's all day at like 115-117mph.
I suggest he get a baseline run so he knows what helps afterward. Baseline dyno results too. It wont matter what he does to the car if he cant drive it either, so he needs the practice at launching.
Gears + converter first. 3.54 or 3.73 depending on whether he'll be driving it on the hwy often, and 2600 stall converter would be good.
thanks vader,
He really doesnt drive it often now. only 500 miles in 2+months. I told him gears would be a must! That and a little stall can get high 12's?

If he can drive as well as Mr Mojo, yes.
I would say your friend needs alot of practice to get there, and might need more mods unless he can drive it that well.
i don't think gears and a stall will get him in the 12's especially with the heat and humidity in fla, needs to do the cam and head work that will get him there.

If it were me I wouldn't fool around with bolt on this and that. It wastes time and money. Get a heads cam package like one of the milder Lloyd Elliot combos and be done with it.

Gears and converter will only help so much. Get into the motor and you'll definitely notice the gains. Make sure, if you do go for the heads and cam, that your gears and converter will work with the powerband.
Ie. A 2500 stall won't really help if your powerband starts at 3k+.
Also, has your friend gotten into the exhaust other than the mufflers? LT headers and deleting the cats will definitely improve your 1/4 mile time, although free-flow cats may work just as well in those strict-law states.
Guys, I totally agree. My t/a lt1 was a head/cam car. He wants to go bolt on for the most part. My new formula I'm getting this week will be receiving a le2 kit in another month or so. So I am sold going that route. Thanks again everyone. God I love this forum!
In my experience (with my LT1 A4) changing from a 2.59 D36 to a 3.45 D44 made the most noticeable improvement. With just a 2800 stall, Long Tubes, and the rear change I was spanking cars that people on CF generally believe kick the C4s butt.
I can't believe GM saddled an engine that wants to rev like the LT1 with 2.59s but CAFE used to rule at the General.
The beauty of these mods are your friend will have to do them anyway if he decides to get into the engine.
All the folks that talk about skip the small stuff and jump into a 2.5-3K head cam swap forget about all of the supporting mods that make a C4 a true beast.
I'd try AI or one of the other quality porters before following the sheeple to the cheapest route, because the cheapest is never the most inexpensive over the long run.
I got my 92 LT1 into the high 12's without doing the heads or intake, but I did have to do a lot of other stuff: gears, 2600 stall TC, LT headers, HotCam.
