Default Don't know

I have the L60E in my vette. They are a great transmission. In fact, Gm uses parts from the 400 Turbo trans. The L60E is a heavy duty trans.
I have a B&M shift Kit in my trans. You should change the trans fluid every 12,000 miles, I do. Any auto trans will last for ever if you remember to change the fluid. Most people forget to change their trans fluid. I have 88,000 miles on my vette.

The most common wear item is the 3-4 clutch pack.
The number one item that snaps, is the reaction shell.
The 4l60e has evolved from the 700r4, which evolved (somewhat) from the turbo 350.
Many, many aftermarket upgrades available, but sadly most are overseas crap that is weaker than stock. Consult your builder for his preferred build parts.

I forgot to mention pump rings. The shatter like glass in high rpm stuff, and aftermarket hardened rings solve this.

L60E? What vehicles use that transmission?

Just finished rebuilding my 4l60e. (thanks for the recommendations Pete...regarding the z pack!!!!).

A few things I noted.
-The 3/4 clutch pack was destroyed.
-The reaction shell that was in my car was already a Beast shell and it was apparent that the transmission was rebuilt by the previous owner.
-Whoever rebuilt it, left out the spring wavy steel that goes under the forward clutch pack
-The low and reverse sprag was toast and had broken/missing springs. I am lucky it did not completely blow up and strand me.
-The wiring harness that sits on top of the valvebody had broken plastic retainers. . . so that was replaced. The prior rebuilder probably broke then and left it that way because I could not find the broken plastic parts in the transmission.

Now that I know my transmission. . . never again will a bum transmission shop gonna touch my vette.

Now if only I could understand the electronics. . . . . .

I'm on my second rebuild with 100k miles on the car. My fluid is changed regularly and I have an after market transcooler.

This time around I spent the money to have it done right with better then stock parts where needed. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ighlight=trans

Thanks for the info Pete! Where is a good place to buy these extra parts. I am having the trans built next month on the 24th, so I should order asap. I will also give you a call about the converter this week.

TCC valve prone to fail, makes 1-2 shifting hard, Sonnax (sp?) makes a upgrade kit. If I were to have one built I'd make sure that was in there.... other than that intermittant problem I once had with another car (same 4L60E) I don't know jack about the trans

No problem. The phone has been giving me trouble, so if no answer shoot me an email at peter.kane@nora.com
It will go to my blackberry.
Brian @ Oregon Performance is one good sourse. He is on e-bay all the time, and is a good guy.
Raptor in Louisiana is another one that is priced fair, and has good service.
Converter is easy. Typically 3 days or less to build, and 3 days or less for ups to ground ship to your area.
