Default 95 LT1 - running temperature question

Crew - I'm trying to help an aunt out. She's always had vets and currently has a 95 LT1. She's had it in a shop several times and has really had problems with a dealership in getting it fixed. FINALLY, after extensive repairs, its fixed and they say its all good, but she has noticed that it seems to be running hotter now. Up around 215 or so and even getting up a little over 230 degress.

What's the normal running temp and should she be alarmed? It sounded higher than normal to me. Best she can recall it used to keep closer to 180 or 190.

Thanks in advance! I told her I'd try to help track down an answer on whether or not she should be concerned or something might be up?

Actually, that is normal operating temperature for the LT1. I thought the samething when i first got my 95. But the LT1 has reverse cooling. Meaning it cools the heads before the engine so it can handle the hotter temps. If it gets above 230 she can put the a/c on and that will kick the cooling fans on and cause the temps to go down. On hot days in traffic, mine has gotten up to 230. But it has gone down once I start moving. Mine usually runs around 220. Also you can check between the rad and condenser to make sure garbage from the road like leaves haven't accumulated up and blocked air flow.
Chevy engines before the LT1 would normally run between 180 to 200. If they got to hot they would start to detonate. But they didn't have the reverse cooling like the LT1.
There is something wrong if it hits that 260 mark though, then you want to shut it down.

I have a self-worked 95 stroker egich I've done all thre work on since I purchased it in 1999.

I would recommend installing a new stock replacement radiator as the original is probably clogged with all ginds of small road grit which you can never get out of the air channels no matter what anyone tells you.

These cars are known for this....they're like a vacuum cleaner because of their low front end intake.

How many miles on her car?

If over 60K just do it and thank me later....it will run much cooler.....like new

BTW, a stock replacment non-GM copy radiator can be had for around $127 to $162 at Rockauto.com
