Default Opti

Replace the whole thing.
You can't just replace the cap & Rotor.
The units go bad at 60,000 on the average.
Spend the extra money dude

I'm at 105k on my original 95 opti. I am going to swap mine with an MSD. I'm waiting to to do the cam at the same time. Are you swapping it just because or did you suspect it to be on the way out? I'm thinking of having my car dyno'd soon just to see where it's at. The idle is not too bad. Every now and then I barely hear a strange noise at idle but that could easily be something else with some of the mods I've done.

Actually you can just buy a cap and rotor and replace those. That's what the previous owner did on my 93.

With over 100k, just replace the whole unit.

You can just replace the guts, but I wouldn't. It's such a pain in the *** to get to the part, you're better off replacing it.

I highly recommend the MSD Opti. Mine works like a champ, and it got me about .05 - .10 in the 1/4 mile improvement.

The GM replacement is more than ok. I think the MSD's are over rated. I had major problems with mine last year and MSD tech was absolutly NO help.
You did good!

Jeff, bring some coffee over before we get back started on it this morning. I had one to many at the Vette meeting last night, you missed a good one

The cap and rotor cost almost as much as the whole thing and if you have to take everything off the front of the engine you might as well replace it all with that many miles.
