Problem? Or is it.
This is the Throttle TV cable adjuster, correct?

Anyway, I slide it all the way back as instructed, and went WOT to reset it and so on. So afterwards I test it out and it seems like it hauls a lot harder now, which seemed awesome at first.
Then I get home from work, eager to take my newfound joy out for another spin to see why it's acting like it was.. and found out in the first 100 feet. The throttle is slightly more responsive, but the RPMs it takes to shift drastically increased. It takes roughly 1k more RPMs per gear to shift, but I'm also going faster yet giving it the same amount of throttle as before. An example may help:
Pedal 1/8 to the floor from stop - Before: Would shift into 2nd at ~16mph @ 1400 RPMs. After: Shifts hard(actually throws me back in the seat a little) around 25mph @ 2500 RPMs. Third gear hits around 34-38mph depending how fast the cruise is, and overdrive is at a whopping 60 when it was only around 42 before. Can anyone explain this? My RPM requirements for shift almost doubled because I tweaked the cable, and I tried putting it back to the original position to no avail.
I guess what I'm asking is, is this normal? What do the rest of you auto guys run for RPMs and speed at shifts in your 86s? I can definitely see a plus to this.. but did I mess up my tranny? I sure as hell hope not.
In the mean time don't drive it to prevent any further damage, good luck.
That is why using the FSM is recommended by so many, it isn't perfect but your chances are much better that a given procedure applies to your particular vehicle, there are many variations between early and late cars.
I wouldn't panic yet, the rrans may shift fine once the TV cable is properly adjusted.

Sounds like there may be other issues with the trans. Our trans expert PeteK may know.

There should be no slack in the cable. I was taught this method by a tranny expert. It's also the method in the link above psted by Agent 86. Either method should work if done properly.

I pushed the tab in, pushed the slider all the way back, let go of the tab, and then hit the pedal to the floor to re-adjust it. The car was on while I did that, is it okay to try while it's off or does it have to be on? It was also a fast punch and not holding it to the floor for very long.
The link Agent86 posted said that my trans may be working in high pressure mode. That sounds about like it to me. Could you guys go into a detailed description on how to adjust it?
Edit: Okay, it's fixed. I wasn't pushing the pedal hard enough to the floor. I re-adjusted it today and stood on the pedal, hearing a few clicks and apparently that reset the TV cable where it had to go. I still notice a few higher RPMs and 2nd gear hits more than I remember, but that might've been the lack of throttle I was missing.
