My engine is knocking :(
Looks like it's time to do something about the engine in my '94. Anyone got any good places for purchasing an LT1 longblock or rebuild kits???
I'm gonna go back stock. This is a daily driver for my wife and she's veto'd the stroker kit (durn). But then again, what she don't know won't hurt her a bit... hmmm.
Nah, I'll go back stock...lol
Would like to use a place someone else has had success with...
Thanks,
Andy
Have you eliminated a bad fuel filter, bad fuel, dirty spark plugs, loose rod bolts, loose flywheel/flexplate bolts, or just a dirty engine?
Most of it can be solved with solvents (pun not intended). Even plugged cats could contribute to engine knocking...I run WD40 into the exhaust and let the engine run.
This seems to be a basic rebuild job. The work is in removing the engine and reinstalling it. otherwise "$1200 is the standard" rebuild rate...regardless of displacement.
I used a stethoscope to find the source of the knock. I then loosen each rocker while the engine was running and isolated the bad lifter. I just replaced them all while i was in there.
I was surprised that a lifter could make such a heavy noise. Might be something you could check out. How many miles on the engine?
