Default LT4 distributor install photos

Optispark and LTCC (most recent ignition) were giving me problems so decided to go Dual Sync distributor on my LT4. Should give me full sequential fueling through my gen-VII too.

Hole in intake and tapered washer/spacer (to be welded in) for distributor.

Does that give all the signals you need, or do you still need to run the optical part of the distributor?

Did you use a counter bore to drill a hole that size in the intake? If so what size and how expensive was it to purchase?

It gives both crank and cam sync signals...no need for the opti isn't used at all.

I used a metal hole saw that I picked up from Harbour Freight for around $25. Worked fine and cut quick...will check size when I get home.

The hardest part was making the tapered shim to account for the angle the distributor sets at when in place.

Thanks for letting me know. Also, how did you make sure you were in the right spot for making the hole? A spare L-98 manifold as a template? Reason I ask is I have a lt1 manifold I'm trying to convert to fit the gen1 smallblock.

I tried repeatedly to contact the guy at www.lt1intake.com to get him to do the conversion for me but he isn't returning emails. Went through his site and he spells out how to do both distrib and L98 conversions. Purchased intake from local parts store and made template and returned to store next day. I was off by 1/16th to 1/8th inche on first try but made hole a little bigger and it works fine. Spacer will be welded in and will cover the slight play.

Brand-X,

Welcome to the club! Both LCVette and I are running these on our turbo vettes. I've had much less issues with these than the opti sparks.

Did you also switch to a keyed crank hub? It will help when checking/setting timing. You'll also need to mark TDC on the crank pulley.

Do you have the part # for that distributor?

a friend of mine might be modifying an LT1 intake for an L98.
If he's doing one, he can modify another.

EDIT:

Is this the one?

Yes. I run the ATI 6+12 crank pulley that is keyed. I'm hoping alot of my ignition issues go away with the conversion.

Yes, that's it. It's recommended for the Accell Gen VII, which I run on my car.

So that means you're running a 12 Rib belt for a supercharger? That's one way to get rid of belt slip

OK, so what's required for this conversion on an LT1 car?
I'm sick of the Optispark as well.

Modify intake
Spacer for distributer
Accel distributer for '87+ car
Keyed hub

I already have an ATI damper pulley, the intake, and an old distributer. I'm still not understanding where you're getting the timing signal for the ECM. What drives that distributer? Does the LT1 have the provisions to turn the rotor?

For me it was a keyed crank pulley, aftermarket ECU, accell dual sync distrib, and a little machine work on the intake manifold. Yes, there is a provision for a distrib in the block (usual location). Not sure what is required to run distrib and stock ecu...pretty sure it can be done but I haven't researched it.

I'm not opposed to moving to an aftermarket ECM, I hate mine anyway. Who's did you use?

Is the camshaft different for an LT1 also, or does it have the splines to drive the distributer?

Thanks!

ScaryFast,

You can just use the opti for the electronics and run a cap and rotor in the distributor. The only catch is to align the rotor with the correct spark plug terminal at the right time.

The LT1 cams are different on the front end to allow for optispark connection. The back end (oil pump end) is the same (gears, etc.). I went with the Accell Gen VII w/wideband O2. I tried running just the electronics in the optispark when I went to an LTCC but I still had opti issues...I guess those things that like to be spuns that fast!

So it's NOT putting out the right signal.

If your going to keep the opti signals, you can run which ever distributor you want.

EDIT
You also either need a long coil lead, or some way of relocating the coil and it's module.

Brand X,

What type of opti issues did you have? Was it something you saw in a data log or not enough power from the ltcc coils?

I am running a Caroll 8 rib on a T trim and curious what I should look for?

Thanks
