Popping under cruise, shutting down (no spark condition) for no apparent reason, moisture and heat causing pigtail to corrode and break and loose contact, bearing wearing out, difficult servicing distrib or changing plug wires, car breaking up under boost which is cured by replacing opti. I personally think (no proof, just my guess) high revs kill the opti due to torsional loads at 6800-7000 rpm causing it break down more quickly and start giving it problems. I have seen signs in more than one optispark distrib of the degree wheel making physical contact with the opticle sensor, which I beleive resulted from those torsional loads and resulted in the premature death of the distributor. Also think my MSD box is causing it to break down more quickly too as it produces much more ozone from the multi discharge. Furthermore, I've had a checkvalve go bad on my vented opti which resulted in pressurizing my distributor with moist, oily air from the intake. In short, I change my opti about once a year, which I beleive results from me runnning it outside its design capabilities. Like I said, the reasons are my best guess...if you have a cure, I'm all ears. If you aren't having problems, consider yourself lucky and dont fix what isn't broken...just my two cents!

Ron,
I thought you were running a turbo in a L-98 (non-opti) car. Maybe I am thinking of someone else???

Why not hook the vacuum side of the opti to the inlet of the blower?

No cure Brand x I was just trying to gain some knowlege, I am running the opti electronics and a Cap and rotor distributor on a converted single plane. I had a problem the other night with it shutting down at idle and wouldn't restart, but I think I have that traced down to not haveing heat sink compound on the ignition module.
AKS,
Yes that was me, I was running a single t- 72 on a 398 with a mega squirt, it was awsome until I had an electrical fire.
