Default stupid question

i don't have a fsm so i'll ask this question. i was driving from Pa. to Richmond, Va. for the nascar race yesterday and the "change oil" words lit up on the dash. stupid question, if i change the oil will the words disappear from the cluster?

It will be outlined in the Haynes. It involves pressing some of the buttons to the right of the digital dash (like Range, MPG, etc). After you change the oil go through the reset steps.

Oil Change Light Shut-Off Procedure

1. Turn the key to the RUN position but don't start the engine.
2. Press the ENG MET button on the Trip Monitor. Within 5 seconds press the ENG MET button again.
3. Within 5 seconds of step 2, press and hold the GAUGES button on the Trip Monitor. The CHANGE OIL light will flash.
4. Hold the GAUGES button until the CHANGE OIL light stops flashing and goes out. This should take about 10 seconds. When the light goes out, the Engine Oil Life Monitor is reset. If it doesn't reset, turn the ignition to OFF and repeat
procedure.

You haven't filled out your profile so we have no idea what year car we are talking about, but here is a link to some of the owners manuals in PDF format.

If you don't know when the oil was changed last you should do that too, turning the light out only makes you feel better, not the engine.

thanks, i knew when i changed the oil last. like i said in previous posts this car was given to me a few months ago and was in serious disrepair. i am driving it daily and as a result i am finding out all kinds of things about this particular model. some good things and some not so good but becauce i like to tinker with cars this challenge is a welcome one. once again thanks to all you guys out there who understand that i'm just trying to sort this car out so i can have fun with it!!!!!!
