What yr's your car? I don't have all the tdf's but for sure you can disable vats in the prom up thru 92's. and I'm sure all the later models too. The reason why they don't recommend it is because you defeat a good anti-theft system.
You didn't post the model year.Pre-96 can be programmed out. I have been told that in the past some shops installed a module in line to bypass the VATS,but that its now possible to use software. The problem comes with 1996 and later Corvettes.Due to the CCM,just programing out the VATS apparently causes a conflict(At least in my car.'84 with 96 LT4).I have no CCM,so the PCM was shutting down the fuel @ the injectors because it was not receiving a signal from the CCM,even though the "tuner" software had supposedly programmed out the VATS.Whatever Ed Wright did to get it to acknowledge,he's not tellin'!!! :yesnod:
I tried disabling Vats on my car in the programming and it didnt do a thing.... Maybe it did, but what I wanted it for was to elliminate the annoying Security light in the dash... no go there, Ill probably need to see if the alarm was still functioning I didnt actually check that.

Paul,
VATS and the security alarm are two separate systems. One has nothing to do with the other really. -Jeff
