Default heater hose question 85

I am finally getting around to replacing my cooling system hoses. A bunch are original. Question on the the two heater hoses leading to the heater core... These tuck into the firewall but both clamps are in the engine bay - do i need to goof with the inside of the car at all?

Here is what I am talking about.

Thanks

Looks like there was a problem with the photo link. Here is another try (snapshot of the heater hoses I am dealing with)

I have't done mine. But from the picture, it looks like you have a short coupler hose attached to the heater core lines and the hard lines in the engine bay. I would just replace the couplers if they need it.

yes, but what is interesting is that the hose ends go beyond the firewall (like they are going to the interior of the car - even though there are two clamps) - I am just not sure if I am going to run into a bigger project if I slice these off with a utility blade.

Since the heater core has copper or brass (??) fittings, I'd remove the hose clamps and cut off the old hoses. Then use a little antifreeze to lube the new hoses before slipping them onto the heater fittings.

If the plastic splice is in good shape I'd not replace it.

The core is right behind the firewall and has very long nipples. Your just seeing hose that is extended onto nipple , more than is required.
Cut and remove.

This is VERY VERY important to do. You do NOT want to break the core nipples where they are adjoined to the core body. If you do, you will cry $$$

I will tell you this: If those hose bits are not leaking, I wouldn't mess with them!
The heater-core is a pain in the Butocks to replace. You may cause a leak in the heater-core, trying to replace those hose chunks (that aren't leaking!).

I would leave 'Well enough alone'!
I hope this helps,

That is exactly what I am going to do (even though they are 23 years old). They look ok from the outside - so I will replace everything except those 2 and carry a spare piece of heater hose in the car. Come to think of it, i should have left the T hose alone that runs off of the water pump and hides under the AC compressor... that was a pita to get back on without moving the compressor.
