Reverse Lockout Lift Ring
When my wife got her '94 6 speed last November, the reverse lockout lift ring was somehow made to be permanently up, disabling the reverse lockout. About a month later, we had an oil leak fixed, and when we picked up the car, she at first couldn't figure out how to get the car into reverse (the lift ring had returned to the lower position) I had to show her how to get it into reverse. After a few months, she wants of rattles and fighting the lockout ring, she wants me to get to stay back in the release position. I have removed the lift ring and discovered that the set screw is missing as the upper half of the set screw opening is broken off. My question is, will it cause any harm to force the lift ring to stay in the upper, unlocked position? (Other than making sure she doesn't miss 6th and go into reverse!
My builder stated after installing my Hurst short shifter with out reverse
lockout. This shifter is capably of shifting in reverse at any speed....then it becomes a $2000 misunderstanding!

Yeah I know it would be possible to shift into reverse at speed with destructive results, just wanted to make sure it there would be no problem with any strain on the linkage with the ring forced to stay pulled up.
