Default Moog lower ball joint......'96

Can't get any response in General so I thought I'd put this here.

I had to replace my left one. My problem is, The grease boot has to go over a shoulder on the base of the joint instead of inside the lower control arm like the OE did. My mechanic pressed the new joint in and I asked him about the boot. He said it would go over the shoulder when I put it all back together. Well it does some but not all the way. I have tried everything I know of to get it over it completely with no luck. Push one side down the other pops up. Is this the way it's supposed to be? Just kind of sitting there. Thanks, -Mike

Are you certain the ball joint is fully pressed into the arm?

I have Moog joints on my 89 and had no problem with the boots.

That's not a good indicator.

The ball joint has a shoulder that should be pressed hard against the lower arm. It sounds like it didn't get pressed in all the way.

And its only supposed to be torqued to a max, after the intial torque. I agree with not being in all the way.

The shoulder the grease boot goes on sticks up past the control arm about 5/16 of an inch maybe a hair more. Seems like that would be plenty for the boot to seal on. Anyway, I'm taking it back off and taking it back to my mechanic and let him figure it out. Thanks to you both for your input on this. I appreciate it! -Mike
