Default Nice day at the track in NC

We had a great day at the track in Jacksonville NC today. 12 Forum members
brought their Corvettes to the track today and we were all very well received.
I was very much pleased when i broke into the elevens with an 11.85 @ 120.
I wish to thank Chris Jr and Matt for the work they did and also a special thanks to ChrisK at Speeddemon Motor Sports for the time he took in helping us plan the latest mods. Chris Jr (lcvette) will add a film clip of the run to this topic. The track is planning to be open on Sunday Jan 30 and any folks that can meet us there are extremely welcome... Please give it a try.. Chris Sr

snaketr,
the track is located on highway 258 as your leaving Jacksnville going towards kinston... not terribly familiar with the area there just how to get to the track! would love to meet all of you though!!!

Thanks all,
maybe with some stickier tires we can bring those 60' down, those times were run with a best 60' of 1.93, traction is a pretty big issue with the car... installing linelock/roll control from hurst in the near future but most likely not before the 30th... clutch is also in the near future as holding power is less then adequate with that many ponies.... i suppose this is where the line of weak parts comes up and the replacing begins...... oh well, just more fun on other days besides sundays if you ask me!!

Chris

thanks again..

unfortunately the video of the run was not on the tape as there were some gaps between runs and the battery died before the 11.85, but i will scan the tie slip in and post along with my fther and i running against each other from last weak... thanks so much! :smash:

Yes I know the track, it's on the way to Richlands. I was in the USMC and have been there several times. When I got out in 97' though it was still an 1/8 mile track. When did they make it a full 1/4.

snaketr---it has been a 1/4 since back in the 80's.They have it set up for 1/8th or 1/4--maybe they were only running 1/8th when you saw it.It would be great to see you guys come down--and like lcvette said---our crew has cars and will travel---let us know if there is any racing up there.Where in VA. are you???

I'm in Richmond, everytime I have been there I don't even remeber seeing timing lights in the 1/4 area. I took my drag bike down there in June of 97' that is the last time I was at that track, and I am sure I don't remeber any timing lights. Are you sure you are not talking about Kinston dragway. Hell I might be wrong, I know everytime I have raced though it has only been 1/8 mile. We don't have anybig events coming until April. Unfortunatly our dragstrip, Virginia Motorsports Park is a bunch of idiots and lost there NHRA contract and moved to IHRA so we do not get the really big races like we did. Seeing 300+mph cars is an awesome sight, plus a friend of mine from Richmond no longer has a home track. He races top fuel dragster and the closest track is I think Bristol. Make sure you cheer for him as much a possible because he is one of the best Corvette Mechanics, his name is Scott Weis and you will see allot of him next season.

Hi Snake.. I guess the track in Jacksonville changed since your visit. It's a super nice quarter with enough room to stop,, unless you go 140 , even then
there's enuf if you have good brakes. We found it to be friendly and very accomodating. The folks that run the track really appreciated the unexpected visit of the forum members.. It was a test and tune day but then we all dialed in times and the Corvettes were given their own space in a Corvette shootout.
Dec 30 is the last day and if you can come down please do so.

Sorry Chris my Vette is down right now and I sold my bike. Maybe that is why I ever only ran the 1/8, my bike goes through the traps aroung 148. I still don't ever remeber seeing any lights past the 1/8 but a couple of members said it has been a 1/4 since the 80's. Oh well I guess my memory is going, but I will try and get down there in the spring.

Now that is moving!!!! Congrats on the 11's. I just got a mail for Chris Jr. How can you possibly be ready for another combo already!!! 122 on a stock bottom with a great idle and drivability and you are ready to start over?!?!

Anyway, I will send him some quotes on the new setup. I think we can get that thing around 124-125 MPH and even better drivability!!! :) :)

PS I did not get your message until Monday Morning. A little late, sorry. :(
I think NC will be one of my trips next year. Maybe we can run a friendly run. :)

Take it easy and CONGRATS!!!
