'95 and steering rack
I think that I need to replace my steering rack.
When I am idle or there abouts and turn the wheel I get a fair amount of resistence (like it is already at lock) when I turn the wheel over 3/4 in either direction. This happens mainly at low RPMs, but not always. I have changed the fluid and still seems to do the same thing.
My thought process is that it is about time to replace the rack and pump out of general principals. I figure that if the rack is putting any trash out it will have gone through the pump accelerating wear, and vice versa. I would hate to change one and have the other one go and take the new part as well. Plus it looks like a royal pain to change.
This leads to my questions. Any words of wisdom for changing the pump and the rack out on a 1995 Coupe. Is it really required that i drop the sway bar like the manual says?
