Hey guys, I need help! My 87' will not hold an idle, all of a sudden. I had a track day last weekend and during every 1/8 mile pass, I was leaving a cloud of black smoke down the track. The car drove home fine that night, but the next day when I tried to start the car, it wouldn't idle unless I was giving it gas. When I try to remove my foot off the gas pedal it would stumble and shut off. I just installed a high volume fuel pump six months ago, and when I checked the plugs they all looked normal. I was wonder could this be a firing promblem or a mass air meter problem. If so how can I trouble shoot these items. Sorry, I forgot to mention there were no codes given. I must still check to make sure. There is a strong chance the o2 sensor could be gone, due to the use of 110 octane. I've been run a mix of 93 and 110 for 3 years and every time the o2 died out it never cause this problem before. Thank you for any input you my have..
I had similar symptoms a couple months back and after checking vacuum hoses, MAF, etc --turns out it was the ECM. Advance Auto, Part #777165, $120.54. About an hour for me to get the old one out and the new one in. Alls well.
I checked the emc for codes, and the emc stored two codes. Code 22 and code 33. The code 22 reference too the tps sensor and the code 33 refers too the emc and mass air flow sensor. I really don't understand the code 22, for the tps sensor. The voltage signal is within the the guidelines of the tech manual. Is there a way too check the mass air flow sensor with a voltage meter or test light. I'm hoping I will only have to buy an emc, and not the emc and mass air flow sensor. This could become costly. I forgot to mention I'm run the mini ram set with the screen cut out, on the mass air sensor. Hey, thanks again guys for the help!
