I've got a '86, C4 Corvette.
My central doorlocking is playing up.
First it worked fine, then it went to one way mode, I could unlock the door with the switches on the doors but couldn't lock it with the switches and now it stopped working all together.
The strange thing is when the engine runs and I use the switches on the doors, the engine stops.
Does someone recognise this or does anyone know where the relay of the central doorlocking is located ??
Yes, that's the strange thing. When the engine is idling and I try to lock / unlock the doors with the switches on the door, the engine dies.
I've read in the catalog of Midamerica Motor Works that for the '86 C4, the relay for the doorlocks is also the relay for the anti theft device, so maybe it has to do with that.
The point is, I don't know where to find this relay.
It may also be the grounding nightmare you think of...
Must start somewhere so I thought to start with the relay, once found I can see if it's gone or not. If it's good I can start working from there.

Oh, it's gone allright! There is no RELAY for the Power Door Locks. There is a Circuit Breaker for the Door Locks and Power Seats.
It's labeled PWR ACCY and is the lower Circuit Breaker in the Fuse Block.
Darn...
So, no relay would mean that it's got to be "the grounding nightmare".
This is becoming a real puzzle...
Thank you so much for the pictures. I'm going to start with checking the breaker and from there trying to find the grounding points.
Thanks again for the help !
In a related vein, does any FM have any advice/info on replacing the PSide door Lock Switch on an 86? Does the door Panel have to be removed? Is this something to be done myself, or should I get a dealership to do it? From what I can see, it is not really covered(replacing the Switch, by itself?) in the FSM?

You may be able to replace the door lock switch by removing the trim bezel, rather than the whole door panel. Pop the arm rest off, remove the plastic **** on manual lock rod and then 4 screws on bezel. That should allow you to pull it away from door to access the two 7mm screws that hold switch to bezel. Disconnect your battery before you do anything.

Sounds like it's worth a try, Agent 86! I was hoping this was possible without disassembling the whole door panel. Thanks much!
Agent 86, I have checked the breakers, they're all good.
I got power on the doorswitches but no reaction on the locks.
You say there's no central relay for the powerlocks, but madvet sells relays, calling them doorlocking / anti theft relays. Do you possibly know where these are located ? They are selling them for the '86-'90 Vette. See picture.
Do you by chance also know where I can find the grounding points for the central doorlocking ?
I have not seen that relay pictured and it's not shown in the schematics.
The FSM says that the ground is behind instrument panel, near LH side of steering column.
After a looooott of measuring and taking of both the side panels and kickpanels I've found it.
In the driver side door there was a bad connection in one of the cabels.
Fixed it and it's working like new again.
I want to thank you guys for the help and the schemes.
Thank you, thank you.
