This past Saturday I had my 1986 Corvette roadster judged at an NCRS Chapter level event. The car faired well and received a Top Flight Award with a very high raw score. As this was the first time the car has been judged, I was very pleased to say the least. Going forward I plan to enter the car in an upcoming NCRS Regional event followed by the 2010 NCRS National Event which will be held at Charlotte Motor Speedway in April 2010.
It has taken me over two years to put this car in the condition necessary to achieve this Top Flight Award. I could not have done this without the ongoing help and support of this Forum and the many members who have helped me find the numerous parts that I needed and sort out the many mechanical and electrical issues with the car. A special thanks to the following Corvette Forum members who have been particularly helpful to me in this project:
• Rick Capone
• Wally Crawford
• Dan Larsen (Agent86)
• CFI-EFI
• Vader 86
• Pete Bergman
• Richard Rogers (rich653)
• Rickreeves1
• Bogus.
Also, thanks to all the Forum members who have helped me fund this ongoing project by purchasing my surplus Corvette parts, equipment, books, tools and brochures.
Again, thanks to all the Forum members who have been so helpful and sharing with their vast Corvette knowledge.
You've got to be pleased.......way to go.........that's a better way to get top flight then just showing up with a low milage garage queen
Thank you; I appreciate the compliments.
This is no garage queen. I bought the car new in 1986 and have driven it ever since. It now has 90,000+ miles on it. Last year I had a chance to drive it around the 28 degree banked tri-oval at Charlotte Motor Speedway at over 125 MPH. No garage queen here.

90 K miles. Thats killer. You must have worked VERY hard for this. My hat is off to you.
It's refreshing to see a C4 that hasn't been all hacked up from it's original form. Thanks for sharing the photos and congrats on the Top Flight award!
Nice job, Pete. I'm also an original owner of an '86 Pace Car. Did the NCRS offer points for the decal set? I noticed yours weren't installed, but I assume you have the white box kit that was in the back at delivery. I also still have the Delco/Bose demo cassette wrapped in plastic. Are there any points for that? I'd need all the help I can get, but will still not make Top Flight. Congrats on yours.

Ray:
Yes, NCRS will deduct points if you do not have the correct Pace Car decals. As you know, the decals came in a boxed set specifically part numbered for the color of your car. The decals were NOT installed. NCRS will deduct points if you do not have the boxed set, if the set is incomplete (missing or incorrect color decals), or if they are installed on the car. The correct configuration is decals in the OEM box, placed in the storage area behind the seats.
Also, yes I do have the original Bose demo tape in an unopened box. I also have a demo tape out of the box. Unfortunately, the demo tape is not a judged item so no points are given nor decucted for having it or not. The NCRS judges will ask you to play a tape (any tape) to verify that your tape player works properly.
Congrats on getting the top-flight!! Also an atta-boy for enjoying and preserving and restoring this car! I think people are just starting to realize how few cars are in this condition!!!

Thanks, Ike. I know that you are right. These C4's were light years ahead of the competition when they were introduced. They are still great cars and the most fun to drive of any car I have ever owned. Someday, they will get the recognition that they deserve.
