Default MORE CAM STUFF

I have found, while researching and playing with desktop dyno a good cam. I used the Comp Cams LT1 276HR-14 and the LPE 74219 cam. With my current setup, the Comp cam will give 440 hp @ 5000 and 519 tq @ 3500 while the LPE will give 431 hp @ 5000 and 517 tq @ 3500. I can't seem to find a price for the Comp Cam though. But, my question is the LT1 part of it. My car obviously isn't an LT1, so will this fit in my car properly? I have an old 350 block that has been bored and stroked and the only main stock item on it right now is the fuel rail :D

Oh, by the way, the specs for the Comp Cam LT1 276HR-14 are...
Hydraulic Roller
0.510/0.510
276/290
220/230 @ 0.050
Lobe separation 114 so it should give a better idle too

Specs for LPE 74219 are...
Hydraulic roller
0.525/0.525
219/219 @ 0.050
Lobe separation 112

Call Comp Cams directly for pricing and maybe tech info. I had my parts from them next via UPS Red.

Though one cam has a wider LSA it also has wider duration so idle might be similar. You could do the math to see how much overlap from each.

I assume the old block is a roller cam block. If the LT1 cam won't fit maybe you can find another that with 1.6:1 RRs will come out the same. Remember that the 1.6s not only add about 7% lift but 2-3 deg of dwell at .050".

The LPE has -5.0 over lap and the LT1 has -3.0 0ver lap.

I assume the old block is a roller cam block.
Ummm, dunno. How would I find out? Does it matter? So, if I want to go roller cam, the block has to be a roller cam block?

If your current block and cam are not roller, then just buy a retrofit roller cam-but then you also need to buy the retrofit lifters, shorter pushrods and cam button. Comp will custom grind it-ask for a small base circle for stroker app.

I had been told that you can build up an LT1 from a regular SBC, assuming of course that it is a roller block. The main difference should be that the LT1 block doesn't have a provision for a mechanical fuel pump. Other than that it should only be the timing chain cover, setup for the opti rather than a normal distriubtor.

The Hot Cam can be used with an L98 as easily as with a LT1, so I would say you are alright as long as the block is setup for a roller cam.

Black, remember that the 219 was designed to work with the SR. While the other cam may show a slight HP advantage on the simulator, it might be a lttile different in reality. Personally, i'd like to see you try the other cam outa curiousity....the 383/SR/219 has been well documented and i'd like to see variations on theme, however if it were me, i'd go with the 219....Good Luck

Comp Cams will make you any cam grind on whatever platform you want. If they are both SBC rollers you can have one made. The LT-1 cams have a longer drive pin for the water pump and the cam nose is longer to accommodate the retainer plate. If you want that cam grind just ask for it on an early style (pre 1987) roller blank. All you have to do is call CompCams. They will then give you a cam core # and a grind number. You then call Summit and order the cam using the #'s Comp gave you. Comp grinds the cam and drop ships it right to you. Custom grinds don't cost any more than regular rollers which is $249.99 US. Give Schneider Cams a call too. I have the LPE "219" cam in my GTA but it hurt paying that much for a cam :nopity What cam are you using now?

I just checked out your website and it's pretty cool. In my opinion you need more cam. Your engine peaked at around 4500rpm if i'm not mistaken. The SuperRam starts to run out of breath at around 5800rpm. Did you do the dynoing at Tapp Auto in Ottawa?

The LT1 Cam you listed is a CC305 cam. Worked good in my 396, but it was a little mild for my tastes. Pulled good till 6200 rpm in my motor and cranked out good low torque numbers too.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well. Plus with the stock 1.94/1.50 valves, I think they're holding me back too.

Yeah, their prices are $80 for 3 pulls or $160 for the hour with the guy tuning stuff. But, he said he didn't know all he could tune on my engine, other than fuel pressure and a bit of timing.

**I also looked at the LPE 236244 roller cam and that gives great numbers on desktop dyno. It's $65 cheaper than the 219 too. It revs a bit higher, but still has really good low end torque numbers. Best of both worlds for me.

******edit******
the LPE 236244 roller cam gives a reading of 486hp@5500 and 506tq@4000. I am seriously looking at this one, it's only $250. It's specs are...
roller
.549/.549
236/244 @ 0.050

The LPE "236" is a solid/mechanical roller cam. You'll need to beef up your valvetrain if you choose that one.
