Default Question about the Z51 option.

I know you get the better suspension and the trans cooler ,BUT do you get the better axle ratio also?? Or do you need the g92 option?
If you DO get the performance axle are the rear ratios the same for the auto and 4+3?
thanks
Mace

The Z51 and the Performance Axle Ratio are two different options and I don't believe they are dependent upon one another. In other words, you can have one without the other. On my 96 auto I had both options. On my current CE I have Z51, and of course no performance axle since it is a 6 speed. The Performance Axle is a very nice option as it adds a little "get up and go" to the performance. I believe a majority of corvette owners/buyers also desire the Z51 option. Hope this helps some.

The best ratio you could get with the auto was the 3.07. That was the perfomance ratio. It was a step up from the standard 2.59.

You can look at you RPO codes for G44 to see if you have 3.07:1 gears. I believe most 85&86 Z51 cars came with G44, but you never know about gear ratios.

you dont get a trans cooler, you get an oil cooler. Mine is Z51 and i also have the G44-3.07 gears. They arent dependent on each other. The standard for A4 was 2.59 and the 4+3 had a 3.07 standard.

That is not true for every year. For 85 it is listed as 2.73 as being the stock ratio for an auto. In 86 the convertible had a stock auto ratio of 2.73 while auto coupe were listed as 2.59

As for your car, does your RPO list include G92? If it doesn't list G92 then your G44 ratio was added as part of the Z51 package. I always have thought (and the Z51 I have seen and test driven) that the G44 was included in the early Z51 package.

you are right, i wasnt thinking of 84-85's. No i dont have the G92 performance axle. But i dont think the Z51 package included the 3.07's standard, i'll have to check on it though.

My 86 z51 doesnt list G92, which is the option to purchase the gear ratio. But it DOES have the gear ratio (G44)

I have the Z-51 option on my '86. I seem to remember reading somewhere about a difference in the brakes, either rotor size or pad and caliper. Anybody know anything about this?

They have the same brakes across the board. In 88 Z51 received the J55 13" brakes.

Thanks guys. When I saw another post it made it sound as if the 85 had a higher(lower #) rear end.
thanks
