last night I was driving my 87 vette with a 383 mini ram and TPIS fuel rails and regulator and it died. The fuel rails felt hot so I thought it was vapor locking I let it cool of and it would start run for a little bit then die like it was running out of fuel. I bought 2 bags of ice and put the on top of the miniram and fuel rails waited about an hour and got the same thing it would run for about 2 minutes then die. I jumped the oil pressure switch and left the pump running for about 10 minutes I could feel the pump running with my hand on the filler cap so I know it was working but same problem. I have an SDS ECU so I can adjust the fuel duration so I added 40% more fuel and it would run longer but still die added another 20% and it would run for about 5 minutes and die but it was enough to get me home I was about 2 miles from my house. I get home and put a fuel pressure gauge on the shrader valve cycle the pump and get 40 psi ( it was set at 47 ) I start the car and the needle on the gauge was bouncing so much I could hardly see it it bounced from about 40 to 20 psi then it stayed at about 20 psi then it went to about 5 psi the car ran for about 1 minute at 5 psi then died. I turned the key off then back on and got 40 psi again. The fuel pump is a Walbro and has about 2,000 miles on it the miniram I bought new and it has 160 miles on it the fuel pump relay is also new it has about 100 miles on it as well as the fule filter does anybody have any ideas? Fuel pump, fuel filter or fuel pressure regulator thanks in advance for any help
Ok I adjusted the injector duration back to it's normal setting left the fuel pressure gauge connected and started the car the fuel pressure stayed pretty still @ about 40 psi I turned up the fuel pressure to 47 psi like the miniram instructions say and it runs fine fuel pressure is bouncing about 2 psi from about 46 to 48 while engine is running. Is it possible that the regulator got hung up or just needed time to seat? or should I still keep looking. I did just pick this car up from a body shop that did some warranty repairs on the paint that I don't think they were happy about doing so I am wondering if my car has been screwed with i.e sawdust in tank or something that would cause an intermittent problem.
