I am installing a Viper alarm/keyless entry/remote start in my 86 coupe. It is a 550ESP to be exact. Anyways, I am having trouble identifying the wires in the car. I need to know mainly how to hook up the remote start, and what wiring I need to mess with. Pictures would be extremely helpful. Almost all remote start systems hook up to the car the same, so I just need to know what wires on the car and where they are. Thank you.
I can help you with everything except the remote start.
Keyless:
In the wire harness that comes from the Door to inside the car there is a light blue wire and a black wire in the bunch. One is your lock and the other is unlock. The DEI 451m (which should have come with your unit) Will hook right up to it. I will expand on this later once I look at my car to tell you how everything lines up.
Parking light flash:
THere is a brown wire (I believe) that hooks up to the headlight switch. THat needs to be hooked up to the white? wire on the alarm.
... Don't hook anything up yet that I've told you. I'll look at my car this evening and update you.
There are adapters that can be used. You unplug the connector at the bottom of the steering column for the ignition switch. You plug one end of the adapter into the column and the other end of the adapter into the harness plug. The wires that come from the adapter splice into the remote start wiring. This way there is no cutting of the wires and you can return it back to stock to bypass a bad alarm. Do a search on the net. They even have them on fleabay.

dang it! I just found my directechs sheet! ya beat me to it.
Okay, I understand the blue and black wires for the lock, however it still will not lock or unlock. The alarm is sending a 12+ pulse through though two wires depending on whether lock or unlock is pressed. When I hook the alarm lock and unlock wires to the blue and black, nothing happens. Is an extra relay needed or something? I am not understanding why it is not working. I can't believe that the keyless entry part is being the hardest part. Please help me.
The door locks will require the use of 2 relays. Both wires rest at ground. To lock the doors, the blue wire needs to be broken, and the motor side of the wire taken to 12 volts while the black wire stays connected. Same for unlock by breaking the black wire and taking the motor side of it to 12 volts, and keeping the blue wire connected.
Cut both door lock wires.
Relay #1
pin 30 - lt blue wire, motor side
pin 87A - lt blue wire, switch side
pin 87 - 12 Volts constant
pin 85 - 12 Volts constant
pin 86 - negative LOCK pulse from alarm
Relay #2
pin 30 - black wire, motor side
pin 87A - black wire, switch side
pin 87 - 12 Volts constant
pin 85 - 12 Volts constant
pin 86 - negative UNLOCK pulse from alarm
Make sure you use a fuse for the constant 12 volt wires. 15 Amp should be good.

Also, if you try to hit the lock/unlock button and a fuse blows, that means that you have the function wired backwards. Did you put a bigger fuse in the 451m? Be honest, because if you did, then it's shot. (even if you didn't hit a button)

Thanks for the diagram. It will help. No I did not blow a fuse. I don't even have a 451M yet. It seems that I will need to get one though. The alarm just does not have the capacity to power the actuators, so I will have to use the 451M.
Has anyone here on the forum installed a DEI 451M door lock relay module on their early C4 that could guide me through the process step-by-step? I want to make this install as painless as possible. I have a 451M on its was to my house. Pics would help especially of the affected wiring and locations. Also, I keep hearing about the master switch is on passenger side. Is this really important? I want to wire the relay under the drivers side, and do not want to mess with the passenger side if I don't have to. Thank you in advance guys and gals.
its, easy. it doesn't matter where you install it. either side is ok. I installed mine on the drivers side, which is how I am explaining these directions from. Did you find the blue and black wire? Cut them and strip the ends so you can hook up the 451m. There are 5 wires"
The purple goes to constant power.
The black wire will have two wires hooked up to it:
The "brown and black" wire will be hooked up to the black wire on the right side of the wire that was cut.
The "blue and black" wire will go on the left side of the black wire that was cut.
The blue wire will have 2 wires hooked up to it:
The "white and black" wire will go on the right side of the blue wire that was cut.
The "green and black" wire will go on the left side of the blue wire.
FYI: The blue and black wires are in the wire harness that comes from the door to the inside of the car,
Cool. I know there is more than one white, lt blue and black wires in that bundle, however I would assume that the wires I need are the thicker ones, right? I remember having the door panel off and the wires on the switch were fatter than the rest. Also what about the orange wire coming from switch? I think it is a
12v+ constant. Can that be used on the purple wire?
