I have a very nice clean 89 convertible. Sometimes i wish it had a more power, but from what i read, it's going to take lots of times and $$$ to make this one fast. Is it feasible to add nitrous to a basically stock L-98? How much does it cost? Ballpark. Can the average person install it? Will i screw the car up for resale purposes? Is there a downside to using nitrous? I know, i ask too many questions.
Darrell,
There is always a down side to power adders. However is you go with a conservative kit them you won't have much to worry. The stock Corvette engine is a very tough engine and can take some abuse. If you put a 100hp system on it and just used it occasionally at the track you would have no worries. But if you get addicted to it and keep bumping the power level you wallet will keep getting lighter.
Nitrous (IMHO) is a great power adder. If you setup your system correctly you can safely run a 100 shot with the stock internals. I would upgrade the fuel pump, get a MSD digital 6, run colder plugs, and pick up an adj fuel pressure reg. As far as nitrous kits go, I've had good luck with NOS, but I have many friends running the Nitrous Express kit and they seem to like it. good luck
PS- I might have missed something that you need, but maybe somebody will chime in and add to the list.
Thanks Snake. What about approx. cost for a moderate setup as you describe and ease of installation? I'm a decent mechanic. Does it effect driveability/mpg when not being used?
If you do it correctly, (Window switch, MSD box, etc) you will be at the 1000 to 1200 range... install isn't basic, but if you are mechaniclly inclined, it's not difficult.
