My A/C condenser was hit by a rock or something similar. Long story short, it is now leaking and needs to be replaced. I'm going to replace the condenser and the accumulator myself. I have a shop that will recharge the system with 134. My question is, should I used the accumulator for a later 134 system? Or replace with a '92 unit?
I don't know that using a later accumulator will do any good, I have heard that some of the pressure switches should be changed when using 134A. You might try sending SunCr a PM, he is the resident A/C guru.
I haven't seen an Accumulator in 5 years (including what GM offers) that wasn't compatible with either gas - check the literature from whomever you're buying it from, but most handle either these days.
I would use O.E.M. R-12. You'll pay more per pound than R-134a, but R-12 will keep your car ice-box cold on hot, humid days, whereas R-134 won't work as well in some cars that's been retrofitted for it.
I know. I paid to have my car switched back to R12 from a R134a conversion because I didn't know it was still available.
