I'm a C5 guy who has offered to fix a C4 for a friend. My friends car is a 92 vert LT-1 w/ auto. The car is having an electical issue. I'm hoping someone here can help me track it down. The car runs fine cold, but once it gets warm the car will kind of "burp" and then the SES and ASR light will come on, the AC starts blowing hot, and the speedo stops working. I tried to pull the codes using the paper clip method, but once the lights come on the light wont flash. If I check it before the lights come on I get a code 12(No codes). I've been doing a little reading but havent been able to find a definitive answer. Can someone help me out?
I had the exact symptoms and basically the same codes -- any chance your friend has an aftermarket chip?
I disconnected the battery (neg cable), yanked the aftermarket chip, put it back together, and the car has run fine the last 3 weeks -- no codes, no problems.
At worst you might try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting -- it will erase the codes and may take it out of limp-mode.
Just a shot in the dark....kinda like the old days of kicking the TV to make it work.
I'm still not sure if my ECM is waiting to die, but at least I have my car back.
My car has been doing the same thing. I thought I had fixed this once but it came back. I found a loose ground on the driver's side of the engine block that fixed it for some time. There are 2 ground ports there, one on the rear and one on the side by cylinder number 7. My loose ground was on the side.
