That sucks !! How do these guys get in ?? I've read numerous post about rodents, but still don't know how they get in. I have seen no place big enough for a mouse to get in.
I watched a mouse run across the garage and jump into a tiny hole in the brick wall corner. He wiggled for 3 seconds and was gone into the wall. The hole was alot smaller than a penny or a dime. They can squeeze their bodies though really small openings, its insane.Crafty ***** they are.
Leatherman, You're not alone. I thought I had the problem solved last fall / winter when I put poison bait around the garage and one of the little bastards turned up dead in my cupholder! I opened the lid and it scared the crap out of me! Anyway, I kept smelling "that smell" every time I'd take the car out. Long story short I found another one dead in a two story town house he built behind the radio and temperature panel. I sucked a half a shop vac full of crap he used to build his dream home and saturated the whole area with some deodorizer. I'm just hoping now that a new batch don't come and take the place of the old ones. Good luck man!.......
The little Bast... can get in anywhere. Any small crack and they can to the Houdini dislocate and get through. At our duck hunting cabin, we use conventional traps with a little peanut butter on the bait bar. They can't resist peanut butter. Get's em every time. Longer term, over the non-use months we use the De-con bait packs. They eat it, take it back to their little mousketeers and all croak. Given time, they dry out and they typically don't stink. But until they dry out they will. So IMO the neck breaker is the way to go. That way it's one shot, one kill and you can dispose of the carcass.
As consolation about 2 years ago I had a similar problem in my house where the laundry room is...couldn't find the damn carcass after pulling apart the washer, dryer, and pulling down the upper cabinets. Finally, I drilled a hole through the drywall and the smell reeked!!! I discovered that the mouse had fallen down from above into the chamber between the studs.
After doing some research and discovering that mice like to eat the insulation off of auto wires I decided to get a cat. No more mice, but the damn cat has been jumping up onto my '91 ZR-1 on a lift which and has left light paw scratches on the clearcoat. The car was virtually showroom, but I think with the right polish it can be buffed out. All in all, I guess a hood repaint is cheaper than re-wiring a C4...
Baking soda kills oders great, spilled some gas in my cherokee from a saw,had a 10 hour drive the smell was wicked, bought a large box of baking soda poured it on the gas spill, never had another smell out of it.may be worth a try.
93 would not start after sitting 4 weeks, duh, what's wrong?
mice chewed injector wires, and fuel pump relay wires. they just like the taste of the insulation, did not damage the copper. so taped all up and c4 runs great again.
did some online research and mice can fit through a 1/4" hole. mice traps with peanut butter and oats gets some but they wise up to that. a happily married pair supposedly can make 100 offspring a year. off to find to 2 cats now.
Well, still no sign of the live one that I saw run under the dash. Hopefully he escaped when my back was turned. I've got a breadbox-eliminator to install since I ruined the breadbox while taking it out. The smell is slowly dissipating thanks to baking soda, febreeze, and a deodorizer. We'll see if another one tries this crap too.
I love the stories where the mice get liquified! Years ago, I had a GMC crewcab. It was a great tow vehicle. It burned because mice ate the insulation off of wires, which caused a short and set the truck on fire. It was extinguished before it was down to nothing. In the glove box, there was a big mouse house wallpapered with wiring insulation.
Get two female kittens (about the same age, preferably from a shelter),
If you got them from a shelter, they may either be fixed or come with 'coupons' to have them fixed for free! Get Females. Fixed Tom-cats won't do a dang thing but lay-around! Males that are not fixed will 'SPRAY' their load on anything and everything. You do need to put a car-cover over the car, though.
Cats will kill whatever critters are present, as well as deter/scare others from coming into the area(including snakes that want to eat the mice).
