Default Plenum Gaskets Question

After replacing my intake manifold and plenum/runner gaskets, I started getting the SES light and giving me the code 32. So it looks like I might end up changing out he EGR valve; still gotta do the test though. But im wondering since I just changed out the gaskets about a month ago and it looks like I need to remove the plenum and loosen the runners to get at the EGR, could I reuse the plenum/runner gaskets or do I need another complete set?

I've re-used mine before - and I'm re-using them again this time after taking the intake off. I have aftermarket LTR's, and the gaskets are cut way too big where they meet the manifold. So, I have to permatex them a little. From what I have seen on my car, the lower runner gaskets don't take the on-off stuff as well as the top plenum ones do....you know dudes are gonna tell ya to get new ones, and it's a valid argument, but since ya just changed them......

I installed new gaskets after I opened up the first time but now just reuse the gaskets as they are not stuck to the metal and remain in good shape. I do not use any kind of sealant on plenum nor runner gaskets.

I also think you re-use gaskets.

I wouldn't buy an EGR yet - I think you might have not gotten a good seal at re-assembly.

When you re-assemble, use a thin film of grease. It will help assure a good seal.

They should be fine to reuse.

Where would I apply the film of grease? Both the plenum/runner gaskets or the runner/manifold gaskets?

Before you go nuts, check your EGR temp sensor. See if the porcelean is broken where the wire goes into the switch. And check that wire coming from the switch isn't disconnected or broken behind the distributor.

I put a very thin layer on plenum-to-runner, and runner-to-intake gaskets, as well as the TB-to-plenum gaskets. I wanted to be sure there were NO vacuum leaks, and I didn't want to do it by over-torqueing bolts either.

I had no vacuum leaks afterward.

96gs007 just suggested in this new gasket swap thread, that they go on dry. I don't see how it can hurt tho'.

My EGR on the back of the intake had some kind of jam between the EGR gasket and the manifold, that looked like silver metallic anti-seize. I will probably go with copper metallic when I re-install...

After you do this kind of work, you just don't want it suckin' any air..
