6 Speed transmission problem
Recently, I noticed when I change gear from 1st to 2nd, not always but sometimes it gets stuck and makes grinding sound.
I am asking mechanics around my area, but before I go there, I wanna have some idea about what's the underlying cause.
Can anyone tell me what price range I should expect for transmission problem?
Not many articles about rebuilding 6 speed transmission around. Is it because it's too hard or expensive?
What's the best choice for transmission problem?
Buy rebuilt one, fix old one, or rebuild one?
There are "volumes of information" regarding clutch/trans issues and you'll likely be best served by just using the search function for issues and problems. The one thing you'll likely not be happy with are the $$ required for a transmission issue. A clutch issue won't be nearly as hard on your "wallet"!!
80K - if it's not had a clutch it's probably time! Best get after it if that's the issue because the more you procrastinate the more likely you'll be looking at the "transmission" issue and it's "tough"!
Your "location" will have a great deal to do with your options! You might complete your "profile"!
They can generally give you a descent WAG after teardown$$$$. Get ready for the Corvette tax!
Labor is the killer..you can still buy the ZF-6 new for around $1600 as I recall...i.e. "thepartslady" off fleabay. Install labor around $350 maybe. A labor estimate to repair w parts would well exceed these figures. At 80K you probably have bearing and synchro issues.$$$$
Bill Boudreau, (Mr ZF), operates ZR51 Performance, is the man on the ZF. No one else is even close.
Call him @ 602-219-6575, email billb@zfdoc.com He's got a super web site!
Cheers
