94 security system electrical drain
the battery was replaced about 3 months ago (die hard)
So now its in the dealer, they said its something to do with an open circut in the security system and they would fix it for $393.00,somthing about tearing half the dashboard out. Also they said it may be a short.
Does anyone know anything about this?
How hard of a job is this ?
Thanks in advance.
An “open circuit in security?” I would have to ask you in your words aside from the battery going dead, what does not work correctly on car, is something not working?
If they said it may be a short, that’s a real general statement and just does not give me a warm feeling that they really know what is wrong and going to figure it out after you say OK.
Hard to give a direct answer to how hard is this job is because we really don’t know what the problem is and the description they gave you is to loose the pin it down.
Before you tear the dash apart you should have some sort of idea where you are going. There are many ways of approaching the problem. A basic approach is measuring battery drain current and pulling fuses and look for a drastic change.
Anybody know a good corvette mechanic in the sf bay area???
The “anti-theft modules” name really is called UTD (universal theft deterrent). This system or function is a combination of the CCM and the PKE. The CCM is the heart of the system, but the PKE arms the system. They work together to make it all happen. I have no idea at this time if your root cause of the problem is in this area.
I don’t know how they could zero in on the problem but don’t know what is wrong. That is why I asked you what is not working correctly which might lead to the problem. PKE boxes go bad at what I consider a moderate rate. CCMs are very reliable but not familiar with either of these items causing large current drains (with out something else not working).
Someone posted a detail check procedure recently but I can recall if it was here or on corvetteactioncenter forum.
