I just got my Magnaflow catback (15658) for my 89 coupe. I went to install it last night and found that the y-pipe hits the front brackets for the spare tire carrier. Anyone else run into this? I have a stock cat now.
I called and then emailed magnaflow and am waiting for their response.
I have a 1990 Vert with the Magnaflow catback...took an eyeball just now and have about 3/4" clearance in that area (both sides). It was hooked up to the original cat when installed. I have since removed all 3 and just added a Catco cat.
Sorry about the skimpy reply .....
Thanks for the reply. I'm still waiting for my call back from magnaflow. When I talked to the rep the first time this morning he was very nice. He told me nothing should be hitting (obviously) and to email pictures. We'll see what happens.

Man I know yoo have but check the position of your spare tire carrier and make sure it cant be moved up a little. My was loose and it moved quite a bit.
I experienced this problem before. 2004, I bought a Magnaflow "blot-on" cat-back system for my 2003 Focus daily 4 banger. The shop had to put it in the machine for bending. The system out of the box would not fit in place. The so-called bolt-on systems are not. I've installed three "bolt-on" systems and the proper/perfect way is to take your vehicle to a shop. Drop off the car, come back, look at it, pay and drive away.
--I can see that there is a big gap between the pumpking and the tubing. Take the vette to a good muffler shop. I took mine to an experienced dude that does tubbing for turbos and 4 banger modified exhaust.
Magnaflow may say to you "is meant to fit" "we never had this problem before" , This one you'll love: "put the system back in the box and mail it back to us"
I feel your pain and I know it jacked your weekend up. I hope you fix the problem, let us know and take pictures
Thanks for the replies. I talked to a rep again yesterday (second one). He told me he'd never seen that before and he had to send the email to the head of R&D (honestly, though, how big is that company? how many employees?) Now I have to wait until Monday.
I would like them to say to me: the measurements are supposed to be x by x by x with this degree bend, etc. I could measure and compare. I shouldn't have to take this to a shop. It's a $450 exhaust system (on sale) and it supposed to be bolt up. How come my dynomax replacement y-pipe fit perfectly and theirs can't?
I also would like to try installing it on another C4 to see if it's the same condition. Only problem is I don't know anyone else with a C4 expect my buddy who has a 95 - no go. Oh well.
You already know it will not fit. Magnaflow Corp. will give you the run around. Take it to a muffler shop, pay $80-$100 and enjoy what its left of Saturday and Sunday. Magnaflow exhaust system sounds great. Installing it in another C4 will not change anything. I hate telling you that waiting for Magnaflow to fix this issue will take 7-10 working days.
That's part of it. I'm not opposed to paying someone for quality work. But the fact is I already paid for this system, I shouldn't have to pay to get it "fixed". If you figure $450 for the exhaust and another $100 to fix it, that's $550. I could have a complete system custom bent for that.
There has been issues in the past with those brackets for the rear muffler hangers breaking off and they have always resolved those so I imagine they'll take care of you.

Well, as expected (you know the deal) magnaflow gave me a bs answer. They told me that I needed to raise the front brackets of the spare tire carrier. Bull. As you can see, the brackets are raised almost 100%. Further, I'd have to raise them about 2 inches, based on how low the exhaust was hanging!
Well, I decided screw that I didn't feel like wasting time with them anymore. I went outside and spent a few minutes looking at the whole system. I dropped the cat, cut off 1/2 inch off the front and put it back on. That moved the flange forward and gave me enough clearance to mount everything without hitting, and the spare tire carrier still works without hitting the y-pipe. Sometimes the most simple solutions are right there. There was no way I was taking this to a shop to get it rebent. I still believe this system was either measured/bent wrong from the factory.
Thanks - I love the look and it sounds great. I just wasn't thrilled about customer service. But you get what you pay for, I guess. I've heard of other people complain about their CS, too. No biggie. I would do it over again vs the cost of a corsa
