Does it send voltage both ways, in from the harnesses and back out?
I am asking because mine went haywire yesterday and finally went black. Turn signals and brights work, but nothing else, not even the odometer.
It blew its 5 amp fuse, and blew another fuse when I had it pulled from the dash and plugged in the larger 24? pin connector. Did not blow the fuse when plugging in the smaller connector ONLY.
I'm assuming a problem inside the cluster, but just want to make sure it couldn't be any wiring "downstream" of the 24 pin connector. BTW, nothing I can see on the circuit boards is blackened. Batee website really had nothing about this.
The cluster has all inputs to it and only two outputs to the vacuum controls for cruise control. I doubt very much that the vacuum outputs are causing your cluster to be dark and to blow fuses. The most common cause of blowing fuses is the inverter power supply in the cluster, this supply supplies the 100v for the LCD's. If you are not an electronic technician, then I would send your cluster to a service station for repair. Batee does have a schematic for a 1989 cluster on his site.
Same thing happened to mine and the problem was the power supply. I don't know why but now the gas gauge works. Was always full before the PS was replaced.
thank you both. I am far from an electrical technician; so it sounds like I'll send it out. Did a little digging and found a shop Lars from C3 can vouch for-- United Radio is in Syracuse; not too far from me.
I DID find a burnt diode, #8507. I don't know how relevant it is to my problem, but if I can find one tomorrow I will solder a new one in. That I can handle!
