Default Larger Throttle Body

I have a 96 LT-1---I'm wondering if a larger throttle body on a stock engine is worth doing--I have a hypertech programmer-170 thermostat--K&N filter--IAT relocated--magnaflow mufflers---but nothing internal to the engine---I was hoping someone would know either by before and after dyno runs or track times---from my younger days I know that a larger carb was not always better unless you were also doing cam heads headers etc.--I don't want to loose any low end response/torque and will likely at a later date be installing 1.6 rockers and springs---anyway-- opinions anyone??? Thanks in advance.

The consensus is that it's a waste of money...people are running as much as 500 HP on stock TBs.

I'd be wary too of re locating the IAT, take it up in the tune.

Only screws with the tune, much better ways to do that.

Then you don't need a larger TB.

You don't need a larger TB. In fact, you really haven't improved performance much at all. 1.6 RR and headers would add WAY more than you've done so far.

Default Bigger is Better

I installed an Edelbrock 52mm TB. The car already had long-tube headers, 4:10 gear, tune, K&N-like filter. You can feel the difference driving it with a larger TB but like others have said, wide open my engine may not register any more horsepower then it did before. I look at it like this.....The engine will grow into it

Take it to the track and see the difference.
I did 30 runs back to back same day ;stock 48mm v 58mm TB.
L98 , cam , intake mods , headers, no cat.
No difference in ET.

But....but....but it looks so cool. Surely it wasn't a mental thing where I just "thought" it had to be faster (unlike an air-foil) because it looks so much better then stock. I just went with the 52mm. I intend to do some internal mods at some point.

Look at this and tell yourself, no, it's not going to help.

It 'feels' faster because for a given amount of gas pedal movement, you are allowing more air in than before. Bigger TB=more air for given amount of throttle. So you push the pedal the same as before, and you are getting more air. A bigger TB did not add any power to your car.
