Default ? for 96 guys using ODB1 94-95 computers

Ever since I put the ODB1 computer in my car I have been getting the SYS on the dash. The computer I have is out of a Camaro. I thought that if I put the ODB1 Vette computer in, it would cure the problem. I have heard both ways, that the vette and camaro computers are the same and that they are not. So what do I need to do, change the CCM to the older 94-95?

You need to either...

A)Change your knock sensors to units from a 94-95

or

B)Open up your PCM and solder in a resistor so you dont need to change out knock sensors. There is a write up on this somewhere. Ill post a link if/when I come across it

I ordered this ecm from PCM for less a year ago and paid to have the mod done to make it work in my car...resistors soldered in...aparently. I took it apart but cant find where anything had been done. I am going to try to load a factory Vette .bin into it tonight and see what happens.

No go, the car is still flashing SYS. I loaded 2 factory 95 Vette bins and a factory Fbody .bin, it was still there. I put the factory ECM in and it goes away.

Did you find the link to the knock sensor mod in the ECM?

Edit

I just found this

"All you need to do is get a 2K ohm resistor at radio shack (for like 47 cents instead).
Once you've done that, you can bridge 21-22 in the blue connector, then connect one side
of them to the resistor. Connect the other side of the resistor to ground (Pin 1 in blue) and you're good to go."

I know mine does not have any resistors soldered in like mention above.

That is correct, but It is a 3.9k resistor

Simply install the proper knock sensors, if that's what the problem is.

What codes is it throwing? Wrong KS will throw a code.

I havent had time to pull the code since I am out of town. I will try to do it tonight when I get home. The only thing is I thought the knock sensors would throw the SES on and not the SYS.

That is correct, which is why I wanted you to think about that before hacking on your PCM...

CCM DTC code 81 is, Invalid Vehicle Configuration Detection ( engine types do not match ). This is coming from the Camaro ECM.

I have loaded Vette .bins into this thing and I am still getting the SYS. Even after reflashing the ECM it still shows up as a Camaro Vin# with an LT1 in the Winflash program. Anybody know how to change this info? It doesnt seem to be changed by reflashing.

My 96 with 95 PCM does the same thing. I don't think you can get rid of the CCM code. I went so far as to put a Vette PCM in instead of the Camaro PCM that was originally in my car when I got it and still no dice.

The 96 CCM is looking for a 96 PCM, so anything other than a 96 CCM is gonna throw the C81 I think. I don't know all the nuances of this but I've just lived with it, switching out the CCM is a complete PAIN so I would just live with the blink.

It doesn't matter which .bin style you use.

I think if you could change all the info like engine type, vin number, etc... to match the original PCM it would work. Even though the factory PCM is ODB2 I can read the factory vin and engine code with my winflash program. If I could copy that into the 95 PCM I bet it would work. I dont have that capability.

Hmmm you may be right, I don't think I ever tried punching the VIN in . . . .
