I have a 94 and the ASR warning light is on. I am generating the codes shown below. Does anyone have a quick suggestion what to check other than going through the FSM tests.
Module 4 #63 indicates RF 02 sensor #1 open.
Don’t have the codes for module 9 here at this time.
I would note the codes and clear them and see if they return. If you had a scanner or Tech 1 you could read the mv of the 02 sensors and check the fuel trim. If the 02 is really not working, it should be very obvious. But before I thru parts at it, I would make sure there is a real problem there.
If someone does not chime in first on your ASR problem, I will see if I can get some specific info later at home.
DTC 64 – Throttle position signal malfunction
This code involves the EBTCM (brake computer), PCM, TPS, throttle position sensor interface module and lateral accelerometer
DTC 73 – Spark Retard monitoring malfunction
This code involves the EBTCM (brake computer), PCM, and ASR timing retard signal.
These systems involve a lot of boxes talking and interfacing of many inputs. The FSM goes into many flow charts for diagnose which is really needed to attack this problem correctly. However I would check the appropriate plugs and connectors for loose or dirty connections.
Also to clear the codes in module 9, the on board diagnostics must be used in sub module 9.7 to clear the codes. Disconnecting the battery wont do it for module 9, but will work for other modules.
Here is an update. The DTC 64 per the Helms required that I make checks of the ECBM and the second part of the process was checking the throttle position sensor control module interface. Since the ECBM checked out ok I tested the module and found that I had intermittent power to the module. Turns out that I have been shaking wires and cleaning connections in all the wrong places. The connector to the module had corroded and it was difficult to see until you pulled the whole unit apart. The problem is at least temporarily corrected. It appears that water can get in (or at least on) this module which probably makes it susceptible to internal corrosion. If you are pulling this code and your ASR service light is on I suggest that you test this thing before you do a lot of replacement.
