Man I feel good, I thought I was the only nut to change to carb, best thing i ever did.
Mackey, your from my nik of the woods, I use to run a 63 splite window at what use to be called Union Hill right outside of Nashville, I think its called nashville speedway now, I use to know the owner, that was back when, Reir and Morrison, Wayne County Speed shop and I ruled in F.G and H Gas in NHRA.I think we were the first three to get 620/630HP out of a 283/288 on carburators,we use to leave the line at 11,000, what a trip. I wouldnt be surprised if I know you if you were in drag racing back in the 70's and 80's. just remanicing

I've only been in Tennessee 4 years before that I live in Jersey and raced at E-town.
The motor is in a 1963 Cheetah, The efi settup was on it, the motor did not run. I did not want to cut a hole in the hood, so I was asking what was the lowest carb settup that would fit under the hood of a stock C-4 Corvette. So if the TPI settup fit without cutting the hood on the Cheetah, then a low profile carb/ manifold should fit under the hood. Now the back to the questions, Is the old style HEI distributor cam gear compatable with the roller cam in the 88 L98 engine, and does the cam have the eccentric to drive the mechanical fuel pump pushrod. if you want Cheetah pictures, send me your e-mail , rcherv1228atAOL.com
i am running a #2975 Victor Jr intake, Barry Grant 750 mighty demon, 1 1/4" drop base air cleaner with a k&n 2.25" element. it all fits under the hood, but just barely.
it would be smart for me to add a cowl to the hood to gain another inch or two in the air cleaner department. i know from dyno experience that the super thin air cleaner is costing me some power, but i can't make that change just yet. it's on the list of things to do

here is a pic of my set up...
While I know the Vic Jr is a good intake, there are some Single Planes that are shorter by an inch or more. I don't know if they'd perform like a Jr. though.
On padrummer1...someone posted a pic; a while back, of an Air-cleaner base and lid with no Filter inside, enclosed almost all around with a welded filler piece of metal. He had a "spout" (Home Depot might be a good place to look for this) made for the front of the "enclosure", that connected to the stock TPI Air Filter and housing with a piece of hose. I'm guessing that would be less restrictive than your present setup. It would certainly have more cubic inches of "area" to draw from; between the carb and the filter (If that would help). BTW... In the old days, they used to say you needed at least 3" over the top of the Carb for best performance.
That is a cool car, what kind of temps problems do you have? Ive done about the same thing, but in traffic the temp just keeps rising, on the highway its fine.
stock L98 cam's have fuel pump lobes FWIW, but if you're going to run a carb take that little pos out and throw it away and buy a real cam anyway. But yes you can drive a mech pump, you just need to remove the block off plate and get rod. Also you will have to swap dist gear to be compatable with a roller cam if your engine has one.

Aside from ditching the digi dash, you can probably discard a lot of other junk too eh? I've been on a simplicity kick lately not to mention while I enjoy the L98 looks, getting shut down in the rpm band where other engines start to wake up is disheartening.
