I have an 86 cp with the auto trans.I crawled under it the other day and noticed 2 wires that looked aftermarket hooked to the trans and they lead to a switch in the engine compartment.I bought the car used so i have no idea what they did to it but was wondering if anybody has any idea what this is??? I switch it on and the trans seems to shift funny and almost seems like it's holding the gear and down shifting when not on the throttle and I don't want to ruin the trans. Any help as to what this is???? Shift kit????Thanks in advance!!!!
Do the wires go to a connector on the drivers side of the trans? Sounds like Cwyates hit the nail on the head, it's most likely a toggle switch to lock-up the torque converter, people normally do this when they switch to carb and ditch their fuel injection since its controlled by the computer. When you are cruising on the highway lock it up and you will achieve better fuel economy. If you don't feel like doing that there are kits available that will contol the lock-up based on engine vaccum. Is your car carb'd?
no it's the typical tune-port injection....yes the 2 wires are on the drivers side....I wonder why they put the switch in the engine compartment?? You would think that it would be in the cab somewhere...The car is pretty much stock except the guy before me cut out the air box and put a K&N filter in it.........Thanks for the replies !!!!!!!
