For the past week my car is having alot of trouble accelerating. It will just shake and chug until it slowly goes faster. I've checked my fuel pressure, tried new wires and plugs. The strange thing is that whenever I touch the same wire boot at the distributor, I get a shock. This happens everytime. Could the coil be bad? I took the cover off and this is what I saw. It looks like burn marks.
I would be looking inside the distributor cap for any cracks, carbon tracking, excessive ware or moisture. Also check on the center contact and make sure it looks good and is in tact. This button assembly is known to have some problems or can be assembled I the wrong order.
As far as the shock you get goes, it is a high energy ingition system. Can’t say the black marks mean much or give a quantitative answer in regard to your shock.

I checked under the cap and its fine. The cap was replaced just last year. I replaced the coil today but it's doing the same thing.
