I've heard map can be tuned more perfectly, but maf is more adapting.

It sounds like if your good at tuning, map is the way to go.

IMO, the best tuner for your car is you ! I think it's about being methodical, doing a one change at a time, taking your time, and consistently monitoring.

I like map strategy as well, repeated trim cells at the various rpm ranges (easier fuel tweaks) compared to the revolving door of maf. Once all areas of the tune (kpa vs rpm) in CL are good, they will repeat pretty well, and fueling can be tweaked in a more specific way than maf. However, a bit more tempermental to weather, and god forbid you change ANYTHING !
I think the "carb" tuning method of an ecm car was because not many were comp. savvy, or working w/ an ecm, let alone owning gear. Prices for harware/software have also come down in comparison to diacom prices a few years back.
I think some settle w/a tune because they just do not know the difference. Many have never experienced driving their car w/better fueling/timing tables and are probably happy that it even runs.....Those with MOrder tunes are still driving the car w/ blm's at 140+....and why not, the ecm is comping...... or so they have been led to believe, or, I hear: ''the scanner shows 14.7:1''.....reality?
As we know there is no comping at that point, the ecm in these cars cannot reason, and for the most part the ecm uses values from various look up tables, therefor, it can only calculate with the numbers given (no quantum math theories applies, lol).

everything I changed required tuning. A good tune doesn't happen that fast, it takes time to get it really nailed.
