Default Hood Issue Please Help

Hello I have a 1990 corvette being repaired at a body shop I purchased a hood off a 1987 corvette as part of the repairs. the car is completely repainted and we just found out the hood will not close the raditator support hits when doing some more research I found the reliefs molded into the 1990 corvette hoods are deaper then reliefs for the earlier model vettes (unfortantly ever where I looked listed the hoods as being good 1985-1996) if there is anyone out there that has run into this or has any kind of solutions it would be greatly appritated. I am scheduleded to be driveing the car from Connecticut to Arizona next week and this is the only thing holding the car up.

That's a b.... I just looked at my 87 and I think that inside section of the hood is ABS or the usual plastic that they use in these cars. It could be fiberglass, but I don't think so. Depending on how much effort and $$ you want to spend, a good fiberglass guy could pull a mold from the appropriate places in the correct year hood, lay up glass in the mold, cut out the offending piece and lay up the new molded piece in it's place then do the fine work to finish it and repaint the entire inside of the hood. That's major surgery but short of going out and getting a "correct" hood. That's the only thing I can think of. And, the timing is a problem. We have a guy here that does that for factory race cars in SCCA stock classes to flare fenders, build air dams, etc. and the process takes considerable time. Wish I had some better ideas.

Good luck.
Rereading your post, the "deeper" reliefs implies that the hood profile must be (or set) higher on the 90. Given that, I don't think the above would work. I was thinking the "wells, etc." were just in different places. If it's just a matter of the inner hood being different (the external hood is the same and sets at the same height), then what I suggested above could work.

Wonder if a trashed 90 hood could have it's internal section removed and transplanted to yours? Would have to be more or less identical on the external (glass) part of the hood for that to be viable. I suppose if you could locate a trashed 0 hood, the apropriate offending section of the 87 could be cut out and the same section of the 90 could be "welded" in it's place.

No easy answer I fear.

Just trying to think outside the box. I feel for you man.
