Would not disagree with this or any of the info and posts.
However….

Car is a DD except when I travel for work it sits home in garage. Travel about once a month (or more) for a week at time. Once or twice a year 2 week trip. Never have any starting problems and has normal current drain when it sits.

Now if were to sit for a month that would be a different situation and probably would get a charger.

My Battery Tender came with two sets of leads. One has a ring end to screw onto the battery terminal, and another with small jumper cable style clamps. You can screw on the leads and then connect to the charger or just connect the clamp on leads. The screw on leads worked great for my motorcycle. They may not fit a larger post though. Either way, your battery stays charged!

So the battery that I have had sitting on the shelf for a year is shot even though it reads 12.5 volts? No charger is gonna make it useable again? I was hoping to stick my charger back on it and then keep the trickle charger on it for the long run to save buying another battery when my car is ready to start up again in a month or so...
Oh well.

First, a voltmeter draws microamps, measure the battery under a significant load, you might not have 12.6 volts. My money is on your battery having little amp hour capacity and if it were mine, I'd buy a new battery. I have posted many times about not leaving lead acid batteries sitting for long periods (4+ wks) not doing anything. Lead acid batteries self discharge up to 1% each day even disconnected and should be charged periodically. Buy a battery tender!

I have a similar model that I made a bracket for to hang it over my side door to my garage and extended the cable to reach the car. It works pretty good, not perfect, so if I let the car sit for too long, it will still go dead, but i have used it for about 6 years now with great success.

Nope, it's white...looks nice next to the black Vette though.

I'll tell ya' man, it's hard not to like this car. I said I'd never drive one of those f'n weird *** lookin' things but...

It's actually a damn nice car. It's the Touring model w/ the upgraded suspension, bigger wheels, larger spoiler, voice activated NAV/climate control/audio controls, HID headlights, leather, 9 speaker JBL audio, backup camera, foglights, tint, touch screen controls, tilt wheel w/ audio/climate/nav/fuel info all @ your fingertips, cruise, heated mirrors, programmable garage door buttons on rear-view mirror, push-button start, smart key (no need to put the key in the ignition & when you walk up to the car w/ keys it automatically unlocks), alarm system etc....this thing is freakin loaded!

And best of all, I'm averaging 50+ mpg (on regular unleaded no less)! I commute 90 miles round trip 5x a week and this car is saving me a fortune in gas.

No to mention, it's 1 of only 2 cars (here in AZ) that qualifies for a single occupany HOV plate...which means, I can drive alone in the carpool lane.

I traded in a 2001 BMW 5 series and, to be honest, I'm not missing that car at all. Believe me I'm no tree hugger (heck, I don't even have cats on my LT4) but, for me, this car makes sense. I still have the Vette for the fun stuff but the Prius is serving its purpose well...in fact, very well.
