Default Double sided Serpentine Belt

I'm looking for a replacement belt. Mine is making noise.

This 92 has the double sided 6 rib belt. It's kind of unique. I think this was just on the 92 and 93 model year.

Is there an option besides the $50 setup from Gene? I was hoping for a gatorback belt, but they only seem to have the single sided versions.

All the auto part websites have the same part number for all the LT1 engines - so they obviously don't know what they're talking about.

GM had a "secret" recall "only" for those 92 owners that complained about belt noise...dealers changed the belt/pulleys/ alternator to the "single sided" belt set-up.

I had hoped for Gatorback too but went with Gates for my 92. They are somewhat expensive for a belt

Is it too late to take advantage of the secret recall?

Yes, it is too late. They say some dealers will do the upgrade, but it's expensive. You can buy a lot of belts for the cost of the upgrade. I bought 2 so I can carry a spare because only the dealers can order our double sided belt.

The dual-sided belt was only used in 92 and the early part of the 93 model years. You can swap some of the pulleys to allow the use of the later single-sided belt. You have to swap the tensioner pulley, the idler pulley and the PS pulley to late 93 or later parts.

Unless you have some sort of mis-alignment issue with the variousl pulleys, the serp belt should last a long time. When I owned my 92, I replaced the belt in '03 just as insurance for a cross-country trip and the original belt still looked brand-new.

If you have a 6spd and drive it hard, I highly suggest you buy the power steering pulley and tensioner to convert it over to the 94+ single sided belt.

My 92 would eat a double sided belt every time I power shifted it. Sucks to stranded with the accy drive belt shreaded into little peices at the race track on Saturday eveing when the dealer (which just happens to be the only place you can buy that faking belt) is closed.

Single sided belts are alot cheaper and you canbuy one anywhere too.

There are two places that might have them: NAPA and www.tld-corvette.com Here's the direct link: http://www.tld-corvette.com/prodinfo.asp?number=578916

When I had my '92, that's where I went.

I bought a double sided Gates belt from O'Reillys in December 2007 for my '92. Part number is DK060674. It cost $53.

The AC Delco version (6DK674) is also available, for $41.99.

I went with under drive pulleys and needed a shorter belt on my 92. I couldn't find one so I put a single sided one on for a temp fix. That was 1 year ago, it has work perfect and is alot quieter.

I researched this previously, see my post #8 in the link below for part numbers, prices are likely out of date.
