Ignition switch position?
My brother removed the old ignition switch for me. When I went to install the new one (witch is identical to the original) I cannot for the life of me figure out how the actuator rod (from the lock cylinder) fits into the switch. If I slide it into either side of the switch it will not bolt to the column.
There is an opening on the bottom of the switch but it does not look like there is a slot for the actuator rod to slide in.
Any help, or pics would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
Thanks

Thanks for the help/
edit to add: I thought the 84 and 85 did not have vats??? If it does is it somehow different warranting the vats bypass offered by corvette central to not offer a vats bypass?

If your ignition switch looks like this, usually when you purchase a new one, a pin is inserted to place the switch in a known position.
This pin must be removed after you install the switch.
For instance if the pin in the switch is placed in the Lock position, you'd turn the ignition key to Lock, hook the rod to the ignition switch and bolt it on. Then verify you have all 5 possible key positions. If you don't, slide the switch in either direction until you have all 5 key positions.
Or you can use a screwdriver as shown in the 2nd pic. and move the switch to any position you want. Then turn the ignition key to match the ignition switch position and hook the actuator rod on to the ignition switch. You can make any final adjustments by sliding the whole switch assembly forwards or
backwards because of the slotted holes.
There are 5 possible positions. Four of them are detent type positions. The Start position springs back to the Run if not held in position.
Accy. One click counter clockwise from Lock position.
Lock position when you first insert the key (allows the key to be removed in this position)
Off one click clockwise from Lock position
On/Run two clicks clockwise from Lock position
Start three positions clockwise (spring loaded position)

This pic. shows driver side view of the steering column.
Item #1 shows a metal bracket that goes on after the ignition switch is in place. It supports and holds the black cable from the automatic transmission shifter if you have a auto transmission.
Item #2 is the High Beam switch.
