was it a rebuild? you can get a rebuild it it last but it better be a good one. otherwise a rebuild has been known to die in under 10,000 miles.
a nice delco factory replacement is the best way to go. a cheap knock off new pump is built with the same insufficient parts that a bottom of the barrel rebuild is going to have and thus have the same life expectancy.

I agree, the OEM is more money, but I think it is a better bet. Some rebuilds may last forever, but I think your odds are better with an OEM part. I don't always use OEM, but if the work involved is significant at all, I usually spring the extra money for the better part.
I've had good luck with AC Delco ---poor luck with aftermarket remans---some dealers will offer a "cheaper water pump" (Reman)--in a attempt to be competive with the aftermarket for all the "bargain shoppers" out in the world that can't do the work themselves--ultimately-- and this is a unique saying---"YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR."
