Default first time at track !!!

ok I went to the benson trackk in NC and ran three times. I raced a 00 mustang gt auto ( stock) but not really he lied. He even had his own name at the track. Well he beat me twice. It was only the 1/8th track. My best time was a 9.244 at 77.84 mph. with a 60 foot of 4.44. First time I left trac control on. second time i bogged outa first because i dont know what rpm to drop it at. and third time i raced a WS6 and lost by 4 tenths of a second.he ran a 9.1 and i ran a 9.5 and bogged then too. I just need some more practice, less air in the tires, not a full hatch area ( rc car, laundry detergent, buddies bike jacket and helment) blah blah blah. and had the spare tire too ! had really crappy burnouts too

It's fun as Hell isn't it!

It takes time to get the hang of it, you'll get it with more practice!

i would suggest not dumping the clutch since you don't have the stock one.. i have to give mine a good bit of throttle and act like i am taking off quickly in order to run a decent time. nothing over 2000 rpms or they are up in smoke. but that is my setup..

well with my 4.11's they are really short as I am in 4th by the end of the 1/8th as other cars might be just getting out of second. I know I would be getting out of second in my stock gears as I could hit 70 no problem , even know redline is there I could still hit 70. I have to shift alot which gives oter cars the advantage. If I work on my launch I will be ahead. PLus 170,000 miles isnt helping me. .4 tenths of a second is not bad lossing to a WS6 even with my bad launch

I have 3.07 gears and finish in 2nd gear (6500ish rpms) at the end of the 1/8th mile track in my area. But that is with a built, bad to the bone 383 and a new 4000 stall converter. Haven't broke my Dana 36 yet and I'm running some 26" tall MT slicks.

the mustang i raced had a 4600 stall converter. He didnt even chirp his tires. Just let the break go and was gone. After he launched I was gaining on him but his launch was too far ahead of me to catch him in the 1/8th. In the 1/4 id get him good. I just need to practice. My clutch snaps right into the gears, not like the other one where id have some play. So if i dump it more id smoke the chit outa my tires. I may have to ride my clutch out a little more. I am gunna practice on the back roads as far as my launches. What times are some of u guys running in the 1/8 as far as the more stock vettes like mine.

Every other LT1 at the 1/8 track in town runs an average of 9.20s and traps about 78 mph. A 100 shot would put an LT1 in the low 8s at about 90 mph.

well i just youtubed alot of cars similar to my performance and they were all running higher 9's....like the gt mustang, ls1 gto ect... so i feel better. I might be able to hit 9.1's -9.0 if I hook better and run threw my gears better and faster. and the fact that it wont be 100 out next time I go out

Even with 4.11's and the stock fuel cut-off, you should not be going into fourth gear in the 1/8 mile. Your car will run 84 mph in third gear at 5800 rpms.

Don't sweat it man, you might be short shifting or something. If you're in 4th, you're in 4th; no big deal.

My car ran mid/low 9's when I first started taking it to the track. Now, on motor and sticky tires it runs 8.20's at ~84 MPH. With the 100 shot it runs 7.60's at ~94. I had lots of practice in other cars though, so don't feel bad. I had a 99 WS6 for a long time before I had this car. When it was stock 8.80's was about the best I could get out of it. The LS1 is tougher to launch than the L98 though.

I will pay ALOT more attention to my shifting next time and make sure im not well into 4th at the end. I wouldnt mind getting a pair of 373's as my 4.11's whine like you wouldnt believe. They are way too short for me. Tho im not to far from upgrading due to my car being close to 200k. ( when that time comes I get a new vette) I might wait. I dont want to tace too much as it is very addictiing and a money pit.....well see
