Default Tensioner problem

I took off the tensioner to replace my SP wires, now I need to take the belt off again and the tensioner eill only move about an 1/8 of a inch.
I can put downward pressure(tightenn the belt) and move the belt 3/4",so I think my belt is to tight.
Could I have put the tensioner on wrong?
It is seated flush against the motor.

Sounds like it was not lined up correctly when you put it on and tightened it down. You should be able to move it the full range with your hand before you put the belt back on.

Is the belt routed the SAME way around the pulleys as it was before you removed the tensioner ?

Give this man a star, took it off and put it back on putting downward pressure on the tensioner as I tightened the bolt and the belt went on with no problems.
