Default NACA ducts

Ok people, who has these? What sizes do you have? What is the installation like? Is a paint job necessary after installation? I have seen these in catalogs in sizes of 5", 8" and 12". Prices are $99, $109, and $119 respectively. Also, I'd like to see some pictures too.

Thanks, and Merry Christmas

The only people with them that I have seen are the '87 B2K cars. What'cha gonna use them to feed air (or rain) to?

It would be an appearance only mod. Well, I imagine it would cool the engine bay a bit. As for rain? Hmm, there's probably a way to divert the water that would come in. So, nobody has bought these kits from Corvette America and the other places that sell them?

And, how much hacking up the vette would have to be done?

For people who are unsure as to what I am talking about, here's a picture from the Corvette America catalog.

The ones that are on the 87 B2k optioned vehicles, are the Medium ones. I aswell am going to put these on my 87. It's really pointless to put them on any other year, because they were never PUT on any other year.

Why do people put ZR1 rims on an 84? ZR1's weren't made in 84. Why do people use the GS hashmarks when their car is not a GS? It's about appearance. I happen to like them and I am not trying to sell my car off as a Calloway. I just like the look, and think it would look good on an 89 as well.

I guess you do have a point there. It's hard to get the EXACT positioning of the NACA ducts though.

That was also another question I had meant to ask. Does anyone have the exact dimensions (5",8") and placement of these ducts? From the picture I scanned earlier in this thread, are these the correct placements?

It's really pointless to put them on a non-B2K '87 also.

I wouldn't hack-up a nice C-4 hood to put on NACA ducts; (to do the install correctly you'd have to use a router to recess the lip-too risky!!!). They are nice for appearance but not needed unless you plan to supercharge your car or run twin turbo's, then they work great for cooling or increased air to the intake. I personally would just spend the $$$ for a nice Vanacor hood that has the raised center with the ducts already molded in and the gill-slits. Have a professional custom paint job on the new hood add the same graphics to the rear spoiler and maybe the side vents and you'll have an awesome set-up!!! Give vanacor a call; (985-758-7041), and they can send you a catalog of their extensive line of custom body pieces.

I think the NACA vents on the B2K cars flowed air directly over the turbo intercoolers?

Without those intercoolers, all you're doing is cooling the engine bay a bit and getting the appearance.

I think they'd look interesting, but it's not a job I'd do myself.

Good luck
