4+ years of ownership I will say this.
I still have a LOT of repairs that need done (in process of the clutch now, but still need weatherstrip and paint.)
But to address some of the concerns/bitching in this thread.
CAGS: I put in the $10 delete from my local vette store
Rubber coating: I'm not a fan either, mine looks like chit, gonna strip and repaint with flat black when I get around to it.
Opti: Mine has 90k miles on it, and it got DROWNED when I blew an upper rad hose, resulting in a tow home... 2 days of it sitting drying out it fired right up.
Spark plugs: get a couple swivels and a 12 pack
Slow windows: Mine are ridiculously fast.
Expensive parts: you gotta pay to play, this isn't a corolla.
SO! I'll be wrenching on my 96 this weekend as I do most weekends, I've put a few thousand into her, and am getting ready to put another few thousand in (clutch, paint, weatherstrip, trailing arm bushings, heads, cam, long tubes, elec. water pump, MAYBE a new opti just since I'll be in there)
And I'll have a big *** smile on my face the entire time.
Oh, and in reguards to Peabody's post... check the sig

Safety Car
the factory cup holder are as useless as **** on a bull. They are worse than that, actually since they tempt you to actually put a cup there..good luck if you have a 6 speed and need reverse. if you go to starbucks, better back into the spot. You're not done yet...bring a beach towel to cover everything behind the cup because as soon as you hit second gear, that things gonna dump.
I put in one of those vertically mounted flip out cup holders that bmw originally marketed back in the 90's when euro ars still didn't come with cup holders.
I'm not too keen on having to fix my FX3 shocks either, but that could be a whole 'nother topic.
ON EDIT- fully and unnecessary digital climate control instead of analog temp sliders on the later c4's. you have to push the damn button about 10 or 15 times in a row to get any significant temp range...it's like communicating in morse code.

The fact that every season I have something new to fix, and when I think I have it caught up and good for a 10k or so something else craps out on me. At the same time I think it might be what I love most about it. It's like the high maintenance girl that all of your friends say to get rid of but at the end of the day the huge _____ and when she _____ but it's even better when she _____ that the pros out weigh the cons and you just deal with it because its so much fun when everything is firing.

I hate the floppy chassis, tall rear gears, crappy rubber console finish, dual mass flywheel, externally balanced motor, battery location, brittle interior plastics, headlights, parking brake, Bose stereo system, hvac system, door jam switch, and crappy weatherstripping.
