engine oil leak
I have 96 LT1. I have a oil leak coming from the front of the engine oil pan. It appears to be coming from a sensor with a wire and plug going to it. What is this sensor, and is it a bitch to replace?

It sounds like you're talking about the crankshaft position sensor. Unless your engine is really clean otherwise, it may be hard to tell if the culprit may actually be one of the various timing cover seals - water pump, opti, crank. I've found it very hard to look around in that area, so I'll be biting the bullet and doing them all at once one of these days.

I would purchase an oil leak detection kit from your local auto parts store. It contains a black light and a special UV oil additive. All of your leaks will show up under the flourescent scope.
