Today did front brakes on the 92 (first time doing brakes since I've owned it). Items completed: front brakes (2 new disks & 2 new calipers & new pads) PLUS flushed the fluid complete at all 4 corners until it bled clear. Did test drive w/ 15 hard stops from 40 mph to properly seat the pads...no squealing & pedal feels great!
HERE ARE MY ONLY TWO QUESTIONS:
1) The bolt connecting the brake line to the front caliper...the new caliper came w/ (2) flat washers & when removing old caliper it had only one washer. I used (2) on left side & (1) on right side to see & neither leaked...which is correct?
2) As soon as car fired back up, the "brake" idiot light was on...I though because I had emergency brake up but when releasing emergency brake it stayed on during the test drive...after the drive the brake light is still on...any ideas why???
Only one crush washer is required per fitting. Keep the others for an extra.
The master really likes to be completely full at least to the line. If its low the light can also come on during acceleration. Also check the plug and connection for the low level fluid indicator on the side of the master.

Good point. We dont really know the configuration of where the washers were used. Hopefully they were not piggy-backed.
Also, these are the causes listed in my shop manual that will cause the brake light to glow:
leaking brake line or connection
leaking master cylinder
air in brake system
contaminated or improper brake fluid
again this is out of my 84 shop manual, hope it helps
All these conditions basically come down to low fluid which trigers the low fluid sensor.
The problem was not there before the brake job and have to assume at this point its probably just low fluid. Do the simple stuff first.
without sounding sarcastic...uh...of course I made sure the fluid level in the master cylinder was full before the test drive & checked it after...a "little" credit here!
anyway, sure enough this morning level still all full & brake light still on...any other ideas I could check out?
Giving you credit for the "simple stuff" but did you knock off the pressure sensor connection? Did the master cylinder go empty at any time during your brake-bleed? If so, the canisters could be full, but there could be air in the line.
1.They may have given you an extra, in case you were replacing the brake lines.
2.Make sure the master brake cylinder is full of fluid.
x2
and did you make sure the wire is still hooked up to the master cylinder? it's easy to knock off. on my car it won't trigger a light but they may have added that in later years.
Hi all...thanks for the help. Hate to leave a thread unresolved...good news is all was tight w/ the bleed on the master cylinder (& per manual said low fluid would also light up ASR light which it did not?) so per factory manual second most likely culprit was emergency brake...I undid the connection, cleaned the connection, back on & brake light off...will probably do an emergency brake unbolt & reset this weekend just to make sure all tight.
